School history

Our school facilities created by merging two departments.

Rajhrad

Horticultural education in Rajhrad has a longtime tradition. Gardening has been taught here since 1951.

The beginning of horticultural education was presented by two-year Horticulture school for gardeners for state farms.. Only boys could study there.

In the school year 1953/1954, the name was changed to Apprentice school of horticulture and girls began studying there.

At the same time there was a new agricultural course opened: grower – breeder which was transferred to Agriculture school in Želešice after three years.

Later, the name was changed to Agricultural apprentice school – gardening branch and on 1 September 1979 there was a new 3-year course – a gardener.

The main building of the school was built in 1905 as an orphanage. The old building was recently reconstructed and in June 2011 was finished the new modern building connected with a special corridor. New period of horticultural education in Rajhrad starts.

Brno

School in Brno originated in 1901 like an institute for education of gardeners from wide Brno surroundings. In the beginning it was school with fruit growing focus, after the education spread to the whole gardening issues. This school changed its names, length of schooling (2, 3, 4, 5 years), forms of study (daily, remote and external), views had influenced gardeners in Southmoravia , in the Czech Republic and abroad too.

School in Brno – Bohunice became the bearer of knowledge and art of gardening nationwide. Noted teachers and gardeners worked in this school. Such personalities worked here whose names knew and know all the gardening public – Suchý, Markus, Berének, Steinblink, Luža, Peikes, Homola etc. Over the years Mr.Director Dvorský school reached its peak in the number of pupils, in the building and expanding facilities. Many graduates of Bohunice school successfully asserted and assert in their fields at major institutions, botanical gardens, research institutes not only at home but in Europe, North and South America.
